Unblocking the River Mondego for migratory fish

In River Mondego, several obstacles to fish migration were identified as requiring solutions to promote fish movements. One of the weirs considered problematic for fish migration is located downstream of Açude-Ponte dam, and the remaining four are located upstream.

The main actions of the project attend the existence of human activities associated with the river and involve the building of nature-like fish passes in the identified obstacles and the removal of one of the weirs that has no current use. Ramps for kayaking were constructed adjacent to the fish pass, so this action will not only promote the upstream migration of fish but also the downstream movement of kayaks.
